An 1820-40 dark blue historical transferware Clews plate from the Don Quixote series, titled, “The Meeting of Sancho and Dapple.”
This series has been assigned to James and Ralph Clews but there is truthfully little evidence to support this theory since this series almost always has the name of the pattern printed on the back, but no maker’s mark, however it is associated with Clews in the book Historical Staffordshire by David and Linda Arman.
The plate is in excellent condition, very dark blue as is often the case with this pattern.
Size: 8 7/8” Diameter
