Pr. Of American Historical Staffordshire Purple Transferware Plates by Joseph Heath & Co., 1835
A pair of American historical Staffordshire purple tranferware plates produced around 1835 by Joseph Heath & Co. The plates are titled “The Residence of the late Richard Jordan, New Jersey.”
Richard Jordan was a Quaker preacher and anti-slavery activist (1756-1826,) the picture depicts him strolling with a walking stick on his farm in present day Camden.
Historical Staffordshire pottery made specifically for the American market has become highly collectible. There is a slight variation in color between the two plates; the lighter colored plate is in excellent condition, the darker colored plate has a few rim flecks to the glaze.
