An elegant French Empire style early 20th century mahogany Gueridon or side table with a veined white marble top framed in bronze. The apron features herringbone and string inlays. The table is supported on tapered legs with finely chased bronze mounted capitals and feet. The table is typical of the formal style found in the upscale Paris workshops of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Gueridons became famous during the 18th century as versatile pieces of furniture that could be placed anywhere in a room. Hundreds of them were found in the sitting rooms of Versailles during the reigns of Louis XV and XVI. The table is in excellent condition, a perfect size and height to put between chairs.
The table is stamp marked on the bottom for Paris.
