Pair of 19th C. Reticulated KPM Cabinet Plates

A rare pair of hand painted late 19th century KPM cabinet plates with lobed edges framing a reticulated border. The plates are decorated with the most glorious floral scenes enhanced with a bird and insects.

The Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin or KPM (Konighliche Porcelaine Fabrique) was established in 1763 by Frederick the Great. It rapidly established a reputation of unequaled quality both for their pure white hard paste porcelain and the incredible beauty of their decoration. Many of their earlier pieces were painted in an Asian style following the European taste for Chinese ware, however, later they succeeded in producing elaborate pieces that were celebrated for their original artistic scenes and the intensity of their detail.

The plates are in excellent condition, even the gilded highlights are almost perfect with little to no loss; truly an exceptional pair for the collector of this most desirable porcelain.

Size: 9 ½" Diameter.
