Edmund Darch Lewis (1835-1910), Oil Painting On Canvas
Edmund Darch Lewis was born in 1835 into an affluent family in Philadelphia, PA. He started his artistic training at the age of 15 under the tutelage of German-born master Paul Weber (1823-1916) of the Hudson River School. He traveled throughout the American Northeast using mountains, rivers, and lakes as his artistic subjects, and was known in his time to be a prolific and successful artist. His early work with oil is considered technically superior to his later work with watercolors.
The painting is set into a beautiful gilded frame, which is original to the painting. It has had minor professional restoration and is in excellent condition. The painting has a small professional pinhole repair to the canvas but is otherwise also in excellent condition.
