19th C. Oil Painting follower of Adolph Schreyer, Lion Hunt (1828-1899)

Featured for sale is a dramatic 19th c. oil painting on canvas of a Bedouin Lion Hunt with the cubs being captured by the mounted hunter on his Stallion. The original painting was done by Adolph Schreyer, and this rendition was probably done by a follower of his style. It is beautifully executed and has been reset in a weathered parcel gilt and ebony frame.

Adolf Schreyer was best known as a romantic painter of exotic scenes. At the end of the Crimean Wars he visited Syria and North Africa where he found the cultural matter that became central to many of his later paintings. He is widely recognized and was awarded many honors during his lifetime. He had many admirers, this painting was obviously done by a close follower. It is in good condition with minor age related surface abrasions and crazing.
