19th C. French Louis XV Floral Marquetry Side or Work Table

A beautiful petite French Louis XV style side or work table embellished with paneled marquetry and floral inlays, circa mid 19th century. The kidney-shaped top is fitted with an ormolu border and the table is supported on sinuous cabriole legs. The frieze contains one small drawer, and a paper tag reads, "Made in France."

These petite side/work tables were the darlings of the French Boudoir where noble ladies used them for a multitude of tasks. Their light weight made them easy to move and because of their petite size, they could be placed almost anywhere. Some 18th century inventories listed as many as 25 tables for each room, probably like diamonds, one could never have enough.

The table is in excellent condition, note the lovely condition of the marquetry, even on the legs where one usually finds faults.
