19th C. Edward Armfield O/C Two Terriers

Presented for sale is an authentic 19th century oil on canvas in heavy giltwood embossed frame painted by Edward Armfield (1817-1896,) of two mischievous terriers.

Mr. Armfield was well-known for his charming paintings of sporting dogs, especially terriers which were a favorite subject of his. Purported to be a cousin of the other famous 19th century animal painter, George Armfield, their paintings are so similar that it is almost impossible to tell the difference without a signature.

The painting is in very good condition with a minor amount of infill paint and the frame is in excellent condition.
