Set of 12 Capodimonte German Porcelain Bas Relief Dinner Plates

Offered for sale is a matched set of 12 early 20th century Capodimonte style bas-relief porcelain cabinet plates made in Germany by Ernst Bohne Sons. They feature a detailed scalloped border with a procession of classical figures surrounding a center framed in heavy gilding. Each plate is hand painted with a different Heraldic crest.

Ernst Bohne Sons of Rudolstadt, Germany (1854-1920) produced decorative hard paste porcelain of artistic merit and high quality. Because the Italian Capodimonte was so popular, they reproduced many excellent examples in a hard-paste porcelain of the bas-relief style, which they had copied from the Royal Naples factory. They often marked these wares with a pseudo mark from the original Royal Naples factory, thus many of their pieces are often mistaken for Capodimonte, Ginori, or Royal Naples. The German hard paste examples are of a better quality workmanship and show finer detail than their Italian counterparts.

The plates are all in excellent condition with rich hand painted enamels and scrolled gilt-work. A matched set of 12, which are impossible to find, would make a magnificent and colorful display for any collector's cabinet display.

Size: 9 1/4" Diameter.
