Brass Inlaid Ebony Hand Carved Chinese Sculpture
Exceptional and large, this Ebony hand-carved Chinese sculpture is finely detailed and inlaid with brass wire. The figure represents Shou Xing, the Chinese god of longevity, who usually wears long flowing robes with a wispy beard and an elongated, egg-shaped, bald head. He holds a tall knotted staff in one hand and a pumpkin gourd, which holds the water of life, in the other. He is further adorned with ivory teeth and eyes.
The figure is exceptionally hand-carved from one piece of ebony wood which also includes the stand. Chinese carvers were historically renowned for their ability to execute the most precisely carved detail. This sculpture is representative of that talent.
The sculpture is in excellent age appropriate condition with natural age lines in the wood. He is quite heavy and solid; crating is recommended for shipment.
Size: 33" Height.
