Early 20th Century Chinese Embroidered Theatrical Robe
We would like to present a stunning Chinese silk embroidered robe, circa 1890-1920. The lavish hand stitched embroidery, in shades of blue and silver metallic threads, is displayed on a rich orange silk background. It depicts several five-clawed dragons which signify an Emperor, fish, Chinese keys, and other emblems that identify the wearer as a high-ranking official. The extraordinary workmanship is evident in every hand stitched aspect of this fabulous robe, which could be hung and displayed on a wall. The inner cobalt-blue silk lining also displays white embroidered emblems.
Gender: Unisex, Age Group: Adult, Color: apricot, Size: one-size
The robe has a front loop and ball closure, slipping over the head to be worn, a padded protective waist, long decorative sleeves, and a layered skirt. It is in very good age appropriate condition with minute staining to the silk and minute fraying of the embroidery. This piece along with two other robes, were purchased at an antique market on a recent sojourn to China and were used in theatrical operas.
Size: 57" Height by 68" Width (arms outstretched).
