19th C. Miniature Enamel On Copper Of Napoleon After Vernet

Offered for sale is a stunning 19th century French miniature enamel on copper of Napoleon Bonaparte. The portrait is a copy of the original 1815 oil painting done by Carle Vernet (1769 – 1821.) It is housed in a gilt bronze rectangular frame with an oval portrait medallion surrounded by a velvet panel with applied wreath appliques. The frame is crested with a laurel wreath and is mounted with an easel on the reverse (broken) and a suspension ring.

The portrait is in excellent condition very finely executed by a skilled artist; signed by "Iris" or possibly "Jais". The frame shows a nice aged patina to the ormolu, the velvet is still richly colored.
