19th C. Miniature Watercolor Portrait Of Napoleon Empire Frame
Offered for sale is a splendid 19th century miniature watercolor portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte set into an outstanding Empire ormolu frame. The miniature is signed by the artist, Ratel, and is after the original oil painting done by Paul Delaroche. It is set into a magnificent Empire style shield-shaped ormolu frame supported with crossed quivers tied with ribbon. The panel has applied Napoleonic symbols, is crested with an eagle, and mounted with both an easel and suspension ring on the reverse.
The miniature is very well done and is in very good condition with the exception that there are some bluish spots to the background, relating to the ill-advised glue spots on the reverse. The frame is in excellent age related condition with a nice even patina to the finish.
Size of Frame: 10" Height by 6 ½" Width
Size of Image: 2 7/8" Diameter.
