18th C. Oil Painting Portrait On Canvas Of Noblewoman

Presented for sale is a beautiful European 18th century oil painted portrait on canvas of a Noblewoman dressed in a red silk gown with a ribbon-laced front panel and multi layered lace sleeves. She holds a fan demurely in her hands. Her stunning face is richly colored with rosy cheeks and uncommonly large eyes. Her up-swept hair is decorated with flowers and she wears a pearl choker. The dark shaded green/brown background sets off the figure's exquisite clothing and highlights the luminosity of her face and hands.

The young woman in the portrait appears to be in her early 20's and resembles similar paintings of the Royal Hapsburg family, specifically the daughters and granddaughters of Maria Theresa of Austria, particularly the niece of Marie Antoinette, Maria Theresa of Naples & Sicily (1772 – 1807,) but the clothing would suggest an earlier style seen between 1740 - 1755.

The painting is set into a nicely carved frame that has, more recently, been given a distressed antique finish. The painting has been relined, and under a blacklight, has a few spots of overpainting and age crazing to the canvas, however, the painting is very stable and lovely to behold.
