Offered for sale is a spectacular late 19th century mahogany ribbon carved armchair after a pattern in Thomas Chippendale's book. The curved yoke supports a crisp ribbon-carved pierced back splat. The S-curved arms terminate in scrolls, and the serpentine seat valance is supported on carved cabriole legs terminating in Spanish scrolled feet.
The carving on the chair is superbly executed and the dark mahogany has mellowed to a rich patina. The chair is in excellent age appropriate condition and a prime example of the exceptional furniture that was custom produced in the 19th century.
