19th C. Oil on Canvas by Theodore Gerard

Presented for sale is a charming oil on canvas by Belgian artist, Theodore Gerard, 1829-1895. The painting depicts a young boy sitting on steps, obviously in trouble with his schoolbag and work broken at his side. He cries mournfully as a young girl looks on and two men discuss his dilemma.

Theodore Gerard was an engraver and painter of genre scenes. He traveled and painted throughout Europe but settled in Brussels where he taught painting at the Academy of Fine Arts. He won medals at exhibitions in Philadelphia, Brussels, and Austria. His paintings can be found in several prestigious museums as well as private collections.

The painting is in very good condition with some age crazing to the canvas. It is set into an older gilded frame.

Size of Visible Art: 25" Height by 17" Width.
