Oil Pastel Painting- Early California Artist Arthur E. Gompel- Desert Scene

This is an original, signed Oil Pastel painting by Early 20th century California artist Arthur Eduard Gompel. A vertical scene showing an outstanding brilliant Springtime flowering desert, snow-capped mountains and tranquil lake. This painting remains in it's original frame with original glass but missing the paper liner from the back. The pencil signature is in the bottom left corner. The condition of the painting is good except for a small crease about 1" from the top left corner as seen in photo. The frame is sound but has the usual minor paint loss as on most frames of this vintage. Measurements 18" x 9 3/4 " inclusive of frame. The colors are strikingly bright and vibrant, more so than the photos show due to the reflection from the glass when photographing.

Arthur Eduard Gompel- born 1888 in Luxembourg, Germany, emigrated to the United State prior to WWI and enlisted in the Army in 1918. By 1925 he was living in Los Angeles. He moved to New York City in 1936 and then to Eatontown, New Jersey in 1940 and resided there until his death in 1973.
