Sterling Silver Ciborium phx Benzinger Bros.

This is a vintage Sterling Silver gilded Ciborium used by a priest to hold the Blessed Sacrament [host/wafer] In this form it is called a phx- a small round box that serves for carrying the Holy Communion to the sick. Clearly marked Benzinger Bros. Sterling SS7443 as shown in photos and is gilded inside and out. The top show a cross surrounded by a crown of thorns. There is finely detailed chasing around the edges of both top and bottom. There is a push button mechanism which holds the box securely closed and snaps open when pressed. The measurements- 2 3/4" in diameter and approximately 1" deep. In very good condition with minor wear to the gilding on the bottom.
