Antique Royal Crown Derby Imari Porcelain Serving Bowl - c. 1877-1880
The bowl measures 10.25" long by 8" wide by 1.75" high. It is in excellent although there is some rubbing to the gilt around the rim. The other colors are vibrant as may be seen in the photographs and it "rings" like a bell, indicating no damage.
The bowl was made to be sold by a specific retailer, one John Mortlock of Oxford Street in London and bears the retailer's mark which was in use from 1877. Mortlock was a high end retailer for nearly 200 years (1746 - 1930) and had contracts with many of the finest porcelain manufacturers.
The bowl also bears the Royal Crown Derby mark that was introduced in 1877 and since there is no date mark with the manufacturer's mark, the bowl must have been produced in the period 1877 to 1880, after which date marks were used by Royal Crown Derby. The bowl also has an impressed mark is difficult to read but we believe says "Derby" as well as the number 1392, which may be a pattern or shape number.
