Today I am offering this beautiful sterling "House of Schrager" bird brooch. I must admit I had never seen anything by this company prior to this piece which speaks to the scarcity of their jewelry.
SCHRAGER (Jonne): 1925 - 1962 The Schrager Jewelry Company was founded in 1925 producing costume jewelry under their name up until the 1950's and then produced jewelry under the name of Jonne. The costume jewelry produced was usually of high quality with classic designs, exceptional detailing and beautiful clear and colored, rhinestones, pearls, and poured glass stones using gold and silver plated base metals, Mark: "House of Schrager 5th Ave.", "Jonne" on tag with "House of Schrager" on the reversed side. The company ceased operations in 1962 .
This lovely bird brooch is in great vintage condition which attests to the quality of their jewelry. It measures approximately 2 and 3/4" in width (widest point), by 2 and 1/8" tall (widest point). As stated, the back is stamped sterling as well as "House of Schrager". It has acquired a lovely patina which I refuse to disturb. The roll-over pin assembly is tight and ready to wear. All rhinestones appear intact and sparkly and the bird's nest holds three faux pearls.
IF YOU COLLECT VINTAGE COSTUME JEWELRY, ESPECIALLY HIGH-QUALITY MARKED PIECES, HERE'S A GREAT ONE TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION.
