Label: Biltmore Made in Canada. Biltmore was founded in 1917 and was Canada's premier hat maker, rival to Stetson. In fact, after Stetson (Canada) went on a Canadian acquisition binge during the 1960s, Biltmore was able to eliminate its main competitor by buying it in 1970. In 1982, after Biltmore filed bankruptcy, Stetson (USA) bought the assets of Biltmore, before they themselves filed Chapter 11 in 1986. The Biltmore brand was withdrawn from the market from 1982 until 1988, when a group of Canadian investors revived it. Biltmore has always been a quality maker, even producing the Dobbs and Knox brands in Canada. This hat would date to the time that they owned the assets of Stetson Canada.
Fabric label: Hand Woven Harris Tweed Headwear with the Orb logo
Description: This is a wonderful men's fedora - you can almost picture someone outfitted with a Harris Tweed jacket and this hat out shooting quail. The hat has a belt form band around the base of the crown that is accented with a feather. The hat has a medium width downturned brim with circular stitching. The hat is very well structured with stitching reinforcing the crease at the top of the crown. The sweatband measures 22" around, and is labeled as a size 7 hat, but please note that the opening measures 6 1/2" in width by 7 1/2" in length. Please measure your head both ways for fit. The hat is in very good condition with some soiling to the lining and the underside at the back of the brim - nothing pronounced and I'm sure that this can easily be cleaned.
This is a very nice quality hat - Harris Tweed is very robust and should last a lifetime with care......nice colour and form....
