Description: This is a beautiful vintage serape or blanket from the 1940s. The base color is a rich shade of teal. There are so many colors in this one...a deep rich red, burgundy, pink, purple, orange, blue, green, brown and in different hues as well.
The center panel is known as "Ojo de Dios" which translates to the "Eye of God".
These serapes, sarapes or zarapes were made in different parts of Mexico, the most well known city where they are made is Saltillo in the state of Coahuila. This is how they have also acquired the name of Saltillos.
Measurements: It measures 92" by 65"
Fabric: Woven coarse cotton (feels almost like a linen)
Condition: It is in good condition...there is a tear above the center panel on the edge of the piece on one side. It measures 2 inches in length. Also another hole in one of the teal sections, you can see this in the last photo. There are also a few brown stains and a couple of the fringes are missing.
Very attractive quilt in a striking color combination - lovely bedroom accent.....
