Vintage 40s Silk Nightgown // 1940s Nightie w Lace Ladies Size Medium Exceptional

Description: This is an exceptional quality nightgown that belonged to a lady from a prominent Montreal family. I believe that it was part of her wedding trousseau and would date to the 1940s. The silk is quite incredible to the touch. It is smocked across the shoulders and inset with lace along the neckline, the open arm areas, and around the waistline. The smocking creates a pleated effect down the bodice. There is more fine smocking below the lace at the waist. The bodice does up with nine covered buttons and loops. The waist is cinched with a matching sash belt.

Color: Off-white

Material: Pure silk

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 16 1/2" across, including the lace trim

Bust: 56" around, but meant to fall loosely in pleats

Waist: 28" around, uncinched

Length: 52"

Condition:

Excellent. There is no wear, tear, stains or odors. The only defect is that one of the buttons is a little loose, easily corrected. This looks like it was worn once for a special occasion and was very well cared for over the years.

This is a fabulous quality silk nightgown - you just can't buy silk like this anymore. Lovely to touch, beautiful to look at, this is a gorgeous piece....
