Vintage 1960s Burberry Prorsum Coat // Harris Tweed Mens Size Large Short

Label: Burberrys Prorsum Made in England / Specially Made for Burberry's Reg'd Harris Tweed Hand Woven in Outer Hebrides. Tailor's label indicates that this was a special order.

Description: This is a rare vintage coat made in England by Burberry using Harris Tweed wool. This coat appears to have been a special order as evidenced by the tailor's label. The coat has raglan sleeves, button-down slant pocket at either side, kick pleat at the back, adjustable button down tab at either cuff and hidden buttons down the front. There are three pockets built into the interior lining of the coat. The coat is made in a rather short style - I assume that this had to do with the build of the original owner. The coat was definitely designed for a shorter stature.

Color: Brown, made up of black, yellow and red toned wool

Material: Wool tweed.

Sizing: There is no size label, but, as mentioned, it appears to be a large size, probably a men's US size 42/44 short - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the wool into account:

Shoulders: 18 1/2" across approximate (difficult to measure due to raglan sleeve cut)

Sleeves: 25" long from approximated shoulder

Sleeve Inseam: 14 3/4"

Chest: 47" around

Waist: 49" around

Hemline: 54" around

Length: 36"

Condition:

It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, odors or stains with only a few small problems. The lining on the back of the flap that hides the buttons has wear/tear around the button holes (see last close-up photo) - of course, this isn't normally visible as the lining is hidden. Also, the buttons that would close the side pockets are missing, but these should be easily replaced. Otherwise, the coat is in very good condition and should last a lifetime if cared for - Harris Tweed is a very robust fabric.

This is a wonderful marriage of two British institutions - Burberry and Harris Tweed. Superior quality coat that would be a great acquisition should it fit.....vintage piece in wonderful condition - not easy to find 60s pieces like this......
