Description: This is wonderful vintage Avirex leather jacket dating to the 1980s. The jacket is based on the original U.S. Navy G-1 issue flight jacket. Avirex supplied the jackets for the 1986 movie "Top Gun", so their jackets are very close to the government issued jackets. This jacket has no exterior patches or fur on the collar - a little easier to pull off than those versions. It does have various patches on the interior as well as a graphic on the back lining (see close-up photos). It has a leather patch applied to the exterior that reads "Avirex Ltd". The lining is printed with a Certificate of Service given to Charles T Reilly and signed by Bill Halsey. The jacket has two large pockets affixed to the front that can be accessed either from the top by unbuttoning the flap, or from the side. It is made in a "blouson" style, which was in keeping with 1980s style aesthetics. The back has a double flap at the top, dropped sleeves and the armpits have gusseted extensions for ease of movement. The jacket is trimmed in elasticized wool.
Material: Leather / Cotton lining / Polyester sleeve lining / Polyester fill
Sizing: Size XL for extra large is indicated, but please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the leather into account:
Shoulders: 20" across the back flap / 30" across from dropped shoulder seam to dropped shoulder seam
Sleeves: 25" long from the dropped shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 21" from the center seam of the armpit expansion
Chest: 52" around, but meant to fit somewhat loosely in that area due to blouson cut
Waist: 38" around elasticized trim, unstretched - 42" fully stretched
Overall length: 27"
It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, odor or soiling. There is some wear to the leather piping on some edges - at the bottom of the zipper area, around the bottom of the jacket above the elasticized wool trim, on either side of the shoulders, the bottom of the sleeves above the elasticized trim and the back of the right sleeve (see the close-up photo for typical wear). The wear is normal for a jacket like this that has seen use and is quite minor. In addition, there are a few small holes in the cotton lining at the neck as well as some soiling (see last close-up photo) - this could be sewn or patched. Otherwise, the jacket looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years - a very nice used example.
These vintage Avirex leather jackets are highly sought after for their quality and look....great jacket that should give years of wearing pleasure....
