Outstanding Antique Edwardian Fine Battenburg Lace Coat M

We are very proud to present to you an amazing handmade antique Edwardian Battenburg lace coat, or long jacket. Made between 1910-1915, this is the most desirable early type of Battenburg that is entirely hand sewn, and truly a wearable work of art!

With long sleeves and a single hook and eye at the front of the neck, this lace coat flows openly over whatever it is layered with, and it is amazingly sturdy and wearable. It is intricately created from yards of filet lace and Battenburg tape lace arranged in flower motifs. The color is an off white, antique eggshell, or tea-stained cream.

The coat features a large dramatic sunflower motif in the center of the upper back. With a flared skirt shape, and a deep slit in the center back hem, it flatters your body and looks amazing over other contrasting colors such as red, blue, or black!

It is totally modern thrown over a simple top and your jeans with tall boots! Or for a special occasion like a wedding, it can take a bridal dress to even greater heights of breathtaking beauty.

Battenburg lace, sometimes also called Renaissance lace, was first created when Queen Victoria of England gave her new son-in-law the title "Duke of Battenberg," in the late 1800s. And an English lace pattern was invented at that time to honor the Duke. A popular lace over the decades, Battenburg has generally been machine-made since the 1920s, whereas this rare coat dates to no later than 1915.

We acquired it from an old New Hampshire estate. Its age has been personally authenticated for us by a well known textile expert and an appraiser for Antiques Roadshow!

It is in excellent condition. There is a teeny brown circle spot, 1/16th of an inch, on the back of the neck, hardly visible. We find 2 broken connecting threads, one on each shoulder - again, very minor flaws and hard to find. No obvious tears, no glaring stains, no storage odors or other issues.

How rare to find such a lovely Edwardian garment in near perfect shape!

About a size Medium, it is worn open and will fit many body types. The maximum recommended bust size is up to 36 inches, maximum waist is 32 inches, the hips are open to 48 inches. The shoulders are 16 inches, the sleeves are 23 inches from the shoulder seam. The coat length is 44 inches.
