This is a very high end 1980's designer coat by Margaretha Ley for Escada. It is a supremely warm, thick wool blended with angora and cashgora, in dark midnight navy blue, almost black. It features a large shawl collar, dropped shoulders and full sleeves with narrow cuffs, and two over sized square front pockets. In the back is a center walking vent.
It is double breasted and closes with dark matte textured buttons. Inside it is lined in black satin that has the Escada trade name printed all over it. There is a gold tone metal coat chain across the inside of the collar.
The label says it was made in West Germany, and is 55% new wool, 25% angora wool, and 20% cashgora. Cashgora is relatively rare, it is a breeder's cross between a cashmere goat and an angora goat. The resulting soft wool has fewer guard hairs than cashmere, and also a hint more curliness. Each goat is individually evaluated by the breeder, making it an uncommon and expensive fiber to produce. This coat is Dry Clean Only.
It is in excellent clean condition with no stains, holes, nubs, or any apparent flaws.
Tagged a Euro size 36, we would call it a modern Large to Extra Large. The profile is definitely avant garde and over-sized, and the proportions are excellent for someone who is tall. The chest measures 46 inches, the waist is 42, the hips are 46 inches. The shoulders are 22, the sleeves are 22.5 inches measured from the shoulder seam. The length is 55 inches.
