This is a lovely antique Victorian French jet mourning pin dating to around 1860. It is made of faceted rose-cut glass pieces that produce a lot of shine. Not quite black, they have a gunmetal, hematite, or cut steel look.
One large center bezel stone is surrounded by 8 medium sized ones, and 8 more small ones on the outside perimeter. They are prong set in what looks to be brass that has a silver wash to it.
The pin is very light weight, surprisingly so, for its size.
It has the original wire pin stem that extends itself longer than the pin itself, with a bent wire, non locking, C hook.
This gorgeous brooch is 1.75 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition, with just some metal wear on the reverse. The stones are in fine shape, no chips, cracks or replaced pieces.
