This is a beautiful antique bar pin from the 1800s, a wonderful piece of Victorian mourning jewelry. It could be jet but more likely it is carved black onyx, it is heavy for its size, highly poilshed and cold to the touch. The pin features a flower spray on the front, made of gold and set with thirteen (13) seed pearls. Judging from its age, the pearls appear to be real. The back of the pin is solid 10K gold with gold rivets, a T-bar pin stem, and triangular tube shaped clasp.
It is not marked but tests positive for 10K. It is in overall excellent condition, there is a teeny chip on one edge that was not apparent until we photographed the pin with a macro magnifying lens. The chip does not detract from its beauty in any way. The brooch is 2.25 inches long, 7/16ths of an inch wide, and 3/16ths of an inch thick.
