Early Victorian Neo-Gothic Mourning Brooch, dated 1829, 9 ct Gold
The outer edge is a deep relief chased acanthus design which continues over the lip of the edge to the reverse. The reverse displays guilloche engraving until it reaches a small central gold cartouche on which it is engraved J Clark 18 Sept 1829. Beautifully made, intricate and delicate but still has substantial weight. Tests for 9 ct gold. Pin is very loose and is a replacement, requires tightening. Weighs 9 grams. Measuring 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter.
