A delightful and elegant Federation era Australiana pin. It consists of a 9 carat gold disc measuring 2.5 cm or 1 inch in diameter. It features a gold map of Australia with engraved State lines and rivers it sits atop gold bars reaching toward white stones representing the star formation of the Southern Cross. Dates from around 1901, Australian made.
The white stones are very bright and clear. I presume they are very fine quality pastes of some sort, or could be white sapphires, but I have not had them tested.
There are stamps which are indecipherable but it tests as 9 carat gold. Original C clasp. No markings on reverse.
