Rookwood Pottery Production Bookends, Rooks, 1922

An excellent pair of Rookwood production ware "Rook" bookends, designed by William McDonald.

Depicting a Rook or Crow at rest amid berries and foliage and covered in a rich indigo mat glaze, this is a substantial set in excellent condition, free from chipping, cracking, crazing or restoration, with only a minor glaze flake to one rear bottom corner of each piece to report.

Each is marked at the base with Rookwood's flame mark, XXII (1922), and shape #2275. There is a paper label marked "233" attached to one base, origin and meaning unknown.

H each 5.25", W 3.25", L 5.25".
