Elegant Stangl Pottery Vase #3110
The company that eventually became the Fulper Pottery of Flemington, NJ began in 1814 by potter Samuel Hill, manufacturing a line of utility ware from local red earthenware clay. Though they had been producing a simplistic line of art ware during the first years of the twentieth century, it was the hiring of ceramist Martin Stangl in 1910 that led to the development of new shapes and glazes which brought Fulper Pottery to the forefront of American art pottery manufacturers. Beginning in the 1920's the company produced and marketed lines under both the Fulper and Stangl names, and was finally incorporated as the Stangl Pottery Company in 1955.
