Karl Langenbeck and Herman Mueller each possessed notable pedigrees within the world of Ohio potteries. Langenbeck, former chemist for both Rookwood and Owens Pottery, met Mueller, a highly regarded modeler and sculptor, while both were employed at the American Encaustic Tile Company. Together they founded The Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, Ohio, which produced high quality art tile and ceramic figures for more than 70 years.
This hard to find figure of a beautifully modeled sitting German Shepherd dog is covered in a variegated tan matte glaze, and cleverly marked with the company name at the neck.
Condition is excellent, free from chipping, cracking, crazing or restoration.
