Mosaic Tile Company Terrier Tray
Karl Langenbeck and Herman Mueller each possessed notable pedigrees within the world of Ohio potteries. Langenbeck, former chemist for both Rookwood and Owens Pottery, met Mueller, a highly regarded modeler and sculptor, while both were employed at the American Encaustic Tile Company. Together they founded The Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, Ohio, which produced high quality art tile and ceramic figures for more than 70 years.
This hard to find polychrome pin tray or pipe rest features the charming figure of a brown and white terrier atop a base with dual compartments covered in a deep green lustrous glaze.
Condition is excellent, free from chipping, cracking or restoration, with nearly imperceptible crazing to the figure and age-appropriate wear to the base.
Marked "Mosaic" at the upper base edge, and "Mosaic Tile Co. – Zanesville Ohio & New York N.Y." to the underside.
H 5.5", W 6.25", L 7.5".
