Danbury Mint 1934 Hispano-Suiza J12
Hispano-Suiza was a Spanish automotive and engineering firm, best known for its luxury cars and aviation engines in the pre-World War II period of the twentieth century. Following World War I Hispano-Suiza focused on automobile engine design and, in 1919, introduced the H6, earning them a reputation even greater than that of Rolls-Royce in England. Indeed, Rolls-Royce featured many Hispano-Suiza patented features, under licence. Most notably, Rolls-Royce used for many years the famed Hispano-Suiza power brakes, reputedly the best in the world, which used the torque generated by a drum brake mounted on the transmission shaft to power those on the wheels. The J12 was one of the elite vehicles produced by the prestigious Hispano-Suiza, with the chassis alone costing upwards of $10,000, a small fortune in those days and more than most luxury vehicles. The engines were similar to those found in fighter planes and powerful enough to carry these large and stately vehicles to a respectable speed. The chassis were outfitted by some of the greatest coachbuilders of the era.
This superb die cast replica, produced for The Danbury Mint in 1990, perfectly captures the elegance and luxury of the original J12, in 1:24 scale. Finished in deep blue with ivory interior, this detailed replica is in excellent condition and features opening hood and doors, carpeted interior and side-mounted dual spare tires. The hood ornament has previously been reattached. Includes original packaging without paperwork. L 8.5, W 3, H 2.75.
