Cowan Pottery "Pterodactyl" Console Bowl Ca. 1926, "Columbine" Glaze
This wonderful footed scalloped bowl, (attributed to Lithuanian-born sculptor Alexander Blazys, who collaborated with R. Guy Cowan during the 1920's) is known as the "Pterodactyl" bowl, shape #729 circa 1926, and is the largest of the four bowls featuring this motif. Glazed in Cowan's spectacular "Columbine", a stunning combination of "April Green" lining the blue/green "Lapis" exterior, this dramatic and substantial console bowl features unique bird-like "pterodactyl" forms bracketing each end.
This wonderful elliptical bowl is in superb condition, free from chipping, cracking, crazing or restoration.
Marked at the base with the die-impressed Cowan logo.
