15K Gold, Turquoise, Seed Pearl Georgian Mourning Pin with Hair

This stunning braided hair miniature mourning pin dates to the end of the 18th c. (c. 1790). It tests for better than 14K gold. The center beveled crystal window contains the most amazing hair braiding I've ever seen. It's virtually microscopic. I thought it was fabric, but it is a weaving of 2 or 3 strands of hair in a tight weave that gives it the appearance of a fine silk or satin weave. The hair centerpiece is surrounded by a row of natural half seed pearls, which in turn is surrounded by a row of half turquoise stones (two of which have discolored over the years). Everything is in excellent condition. The pin measures 1" X 3/4". The C clasp on back is sturdy and closes well.
