Wonderful, and probably pretty rare, Victorian spring-mechanism scissors that open by pulling a hinged lock on the bottom. They spring open and are ready for use. Beautiful, tactile item when closed. The ivory is in excellent condition, as are the scissors (with some pitting and a tiny bit of removable rust, which doesn't affect it in any way). The scissors are very sharp and cut really crisply. When closed, they measure 2 1/4" long X 1/2" wide. When open, it measures just over 3 3/4" long. There are the first 2 letters of what I'm assuming is the word "PATENT." Or it may be the beginning of a maker's name. The scissors part tests for silver, but the outside metal doesn't. Very interesting piece.
