Very Unusual European Miniature Portrait Pair on Ivory

This lovely 19th c. couple (may be Russian, Polish or Hungarian) are really an interesting pair. It seems that the gentleman is some sort of an official, with his braided chest decoration, while the wife is just your typical 19th century upper-class lady, dressed in an off-the-shoulder gown, and wearing what looks like coral jewelry, but could be heavy gold chains. Both portraits are painted on thick slabs of ivory and are framed in a most unusual style in a really lovely wood frame. They are placed down on glass and held there with tape. This is the original framing, although the tape may have been changed over the years. The portraits are in fair condition, with quite a bit of scuffing on the lady. The gentleman is in much better condition. The sight size is 2" X 1 1/2", and the overall frame is just over 5 1/2" X 4". The frame is highly gilded wood. There is some gold paint chipping around the rim of the frame.
