This c. 1890 snuff box is a joy to behold. (it may also be a cigarette box or a card case ... I don't actually know what it was used for). The cream and cobalt colored enamelling is spectacular amid engraved 2-tone foliate designs. The cream color center - which is framed with little flowers in a glassy cobalt enamel - contains a magnificent cartouche with engraved monogram (B,E and maybe L). There is also a lion face on the bottom of the cartouche. The silver is 800 - marked on the gilt interior, alongside a maker's mark which could be a TF in a partial circle (art nouveau jewelry designer Theodor Fahrner has these initials, but I don't think this was made by Fahrner). There is also a "B" on the front rim. I'm almost positive it's German or Austrian in origin. The box is in excellent condition, aside from a tiny dent in the bottom rim (unimportant, but had to be mentioned). Box measures 3" X 2" and weighs 67 grams.
