This gorgeous set comes from Asprey of 166 Bond St., London. I don't know the age, but I'm assuming 1930s, art deco era. The pencils are not marked, but are tested sterling silver. Each has an enamel symbol for the different suite of cards: hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades in red and black. The bakelite or plastic square top swivels to extend the lead inside the pencil. The pencils are beautifully chased, with a silky feel, making them tactile and pleasant to hold. They are just under 3 1/2" long and are all in excellent condition. The box is also in gorgeous condition, with the silk and velvet interior slightly stained from the leads, but wonderfully intact. The lizard skin or leather covered hinged box is in great shape too. There is a lovely gold embossed frame on the top. The push button lock works perfectly as well. Box measures 4 3/4" X 2 1/2". This would make an incredible gift for the bridge player in your life.
