A gorgeous, antique ironstone sauce tureen with flow blue designs and gilded accents. The tureen has a high domed lid embellished with a large floral/fruit finial (which I believe is a pomegranate) accented with embossed leaves sprawling across the top. The raised decorations are brushed with vivid blue and highlighted with gold. There is a scrolling gold design of stylized flowers and flourishes encircling the lid just above rim which also features a two tone flow blue pattern resembling "tumbling" blocks. This pattern is repeated around the shoulder of the tureen and along the inside rim. The piece has a gently lobed shape, four scrolling feet and two applied handles on either side shaped like leafy vines. All three pieces feature abundant gilding. There are several marks - on the underplate is an impressed "Pearl" "L" and a star and a printed mark "Diamond" in blue, under glaze; the body is also signed with an impressed star and "Pearl" and "L". The manufacturer is unknown and we are dating this piece to ca. 1850/70. Measures: underplate 8 1/4" wide handle to handle, overall height is approx 7".
Condition: One small flake to the foot of the underplate (see photo); 2 stress lines where finial attaches to lid; some spotted discoloration where foot connects to body and around handles; gold is approx. 70% intact.
