Vintage Ethnic Mexican Design- Colorful Tablecloth
A very unusual, vintage tablecloth with distinctive Mexican decorations. It feels like a heavy but supple linen material with natural slubs scattered through the fabric. The printed design is colored lime green, navy blue and deep burgundy and features a wide border of walking people in traditional Hispanic dress - women with shawls, men wearing sombreros and serapes. They look like they are walking to/from the market - the women are carrying flowers or sacks, the men are carrying ollas or cages with small animals and birds inside or leaves. Between the people you will see typical desert plants. At each of the four corners is an abstract design of tall Southwestern or Mission style buildings and the center is decorated with concentric rings made of small floral/geometric designs. I checked out numerous Internet sites and did not come across anything quite like this
wonderful ethnic textile, it would be perfect for a summer fiesta! Measures 41" x50". Circa 1940s/50s?
Condition: Excellent - no rips, tears, holes. Has not been washed and there is faint soiling around the outer center circle, along the fold lines, and one pale rust colored spot, all of which will probably come out with a good soak.
