Antique French Faience Gien Renaissance Jardiniere (w/plate)

The deep navy background of this piece is hard to find and much sought after. The design features exquisite and enthusiastic hand-painted allegorical and mythological figures. There are two cobalt blue sculpted faces on each side of the bowl. The jardiniere sits on a matching plate which is ornamented in similar fashion to the bands of the top piece. Both pieces bear the Gien factory mark.

The pieces are in very good condition. There are no visible cracks or chips on the outer design portions of either piece. The bottom of the plate has minor chipping to the raised underneath rim. The jardiniere has very minute wear on the underside (or sitting portion).

It is large, measuring 7 1/4" tall, 9" in circumference. The plate measures 12" in circumference.
