Antique Nineteenth Century French Miniature Louis XV Style Commode

We were delighted to find this original antique miniature Breccia marble topped/Louis XV style commode. It is complete with the original fancy bronze ormolu. This example dates from the late 1880's.

It is a faithful and exact representation of its full-sized counterpart, with sides and drawers that have the signature "French curve", a beautiful, gentle curve which goes outward from the center.

This would have been a salesman's is made of fine French rosewood, with bronze ormolu and drawer handles. Each charming little upturned foot on the front of the commode has an very ornate bronze ormolu accent, measuring 3 1/8" long. The drawers were expertly crafted, with the grain of the wood veneer being placed at opposite angles to create a four panel design across the front. The bronze drawer handles are ornate, and are held into place by the original metal pins. There are two long bronze ormolu pieces at the corner angles just under the marble top. There are two drawers, which are dovetailed. The curvaceous marble top is 1/2" thick, and is of a delicious marbled coloring (mixture of honey yellow, creme, caramel, mocha, chocolate). The marble top has no chips or cracks.

There are a very minor few pieces of the rosewood veneer that have chipped from the piece, but otherwise it is in excellent condition. It measures: 10 1/4" tall, 6" deep (at legs): Across the back of the marble 12 1/4", depth of the marble at the center is 6 3/8", the measurement across the front of the marble 10 3/8".

Authentic, antique, quality miniature pieces such as this are almost impossible to find in today's market.
