We only wish that we could include the beautiful little tune that this delightful music box plays with our description!
A lovely item, dating from the period of Napoleon III (1852-1870), it is made of lovely metal filigree. It was originally made for the wealthy nobility of Paris, and was probably first sold in the elegant shops in the popular "Passages". These Passages were the first indoor shopping places, and the Parisian nobility delighted in strolling through the comfortable environment, buying special and unusual items for themselves and loved ones.
This small piano is glorious. It would have been cast from an original mold, made by a master craftsman. It is an exact replica of the normal sized grand piano and the detail is astounding. It has a piece of ivory for the keys, in which lines have been drawn and small black keys inserted to form a proper keyboard. It has two pedals which extend from the body. The lid opens up to reveal the little music box container. It winds up with a key on the underneath side and plays beautifully!! The sound is delicate and clear, amazing when heard coming from such a petite piano!
It is in exceptional condition, the music box portion working. The dimensions are: 4" long, 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/4" tall.
This is one of our favorite treasures. It is truly love at first "note" when you hear this little piano play.
