English Art Nouveau Silver Dragonfly Round Top Hat Pins

This is the most beautiful and impressive pair of English sterling silver hat pins I have ever come across. They are from the Art Nouveau period circa 1900. The silver is unmarked but tests to sterling. The pin and backing is steel.

Each pin is 6¼" (15.8cms)long and the tops measure 1 and 5/16" (3.4cms) in diameter.

The round tops have the most wonderful repoussé design of a dragonfly and a leafy spray. The dragonfly was an important motif from the Art Nouveau period. The silver is in wonderful condition with no dents or scratches.

Turning the pin over you will see the Norene hat pin head with wire gauze. It is inscribed `Norene Pat.15180/11'. Oginally this gauze was intended to hold the point of the other hat pin to avoid accident to a passer by. It may also have been the fashion to sprinkle perfumed powder into the gauze and one of the two, particularly, still carries a heady perfume.

The back is hinged and is attached to a holder into which the pin itself is pushed.

This is an exceptional opportunity to add to a collection of hat pins or a collection of Art Nouveau items. They will arrive very carefully presented and protected.
