This wonderful Jugendstyl Art Nouveau (circa 1900) pin is made of silver with plique à jour enamel embellished with a coral cabochon and a natural pearl. It is marked `800' and I believe that it is of German origin. Although it bears no maker's mark it is remarkably similar to designs by Levinger& Bissinger of Pforzheim, Germany. This company created wonderful jewellery around the turn of the century.
The pin measures 1" (2.5cms) across and vertically 1 and 3/8" (3.1cms). It weighs 4.7 grams.
This pin has a definite Egyptian Revival influence with lotus blossoms enamelled in wonderfully translucent, soft green enamel. Hold it to the light and you can see right through it. Beneath the blossoms is a rich red coral cabochon. The pin is framed with a swirling , silver border with two tiny lotus blossoms at the top. From the base hangs a lustrous pearl drop.
On the back is an old style c clip and pin. The pin is very slightly bent. In the centre is the inscription' 800'.
This most beautiful and very wearable pin is in excellent antique condition with all the enamel intact. It will arrive in a gift box.
