English Art Nouveau 1902 Silver Gilt Lady Pin Pendant & Perfume Flacon
It has a total length of 2 and 3/16" (5.6cms). The pin at the top is 1 and 2/16" (2.8cms) wide and the flacon measures 1 and 1/16" (2.8cms) in diameter. It weighs 7.9 grams.
The pin at the top has three graduated parallel bars . There is a tiny ring at the base attached to two rings, These in turn have chains which are joined to the top of the flacon.
The flacon has a small knob at the top which unscrews . The front and back of the flacon has a wonderful, repoussé image of a lady's head. And shoulders. The is very beautiful with a fine profile and her hair tied back, although little strands manage to escape. Around the border are swirling flower stems and what I believe are lilies. There is a bevelled decorative edge.
The back of the pin is marked `silver`. On the reverse of the flacon are the cleanly struck,English hallmarks – the lion passant for sterling silver, the much sought after three wheat sheaves mark of the Chester assay office and the date letter `B' for 1902. The makers mark `W&R' is for Wilmot and Roberts, established in 1838.
This piece is so versatile as if you wished you could easily remove the top pin to suspend a different item from it. The flacon could easily be turned into a pendant with the addition of a chain.
This truly delightful and very rare piece is in excellent antique condition. There are some signs of age on the bevelled edge but this could be cleaned if desired. Otherwise there are no issues that I can see. It will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
